According to a recent study, there are about 70,000 blind children in Indonesia. Among them, 60 percent were not born blind. Iyehezkiel Parudani is one of them, who lost his eyesight by accident at age six. He now teaches English to blind students at the Pajajaran Special SchooL Iyehezkiel Parudani says learning English can help blind people feel better about themselves. "By learning English, they can be an English teacher, a translator, and a tour guide. " Students read using Braille (盲文). To write, they use special tools, too.

Iyehezkiel Parudani says blind people should not let their physical disability influence their dreams. In 2008 , he got a chance to study at the University of Texas. Two years later, he got a master's degree in course development there.

"In the US, if I go to the university to study, everything is available - like e-books, Braille books. Here in Indonesia, you know, it’s difficult to find a reference book in e-book or in Braille. We have to make it ourselves. In the US, I can move wherever I want because everything designed is really accessible for people with blindness. "

Eha Lestari, one of his star students, says learning English has changed her life. She has already traveled to the US with the help of an Indonesia-U. S. program. "I study English because I love English very much. I want to be a translator because I want to go to the other countries and then I want to meet some people from around the world. "

Like her classmates, Eha loves to sing. Here, music is part of daily life. Even the students who do not study English can sing some American pop songs, such as Stand By Me , "Stand by me. Please stand, stand by me. Stand by me.... "

Iyehezkiel Parudani says the song has special meaning to the students. "In our life, we need other persons. You have to stand by me. Without you standing by me, I'm meaningless. "

A new camera made by a company named Netatmo has facial recognition software (识别系统) that can tell parents at work that their children have returned from school, or that a package has been taken to their home. It can also tell them if a stranger has entered their home.

Janina Mattausch is a product marketing manager for Netatmo.

"The common security (安全) cameras at present are not that smart. So, they can tell you if something is moving but they don't necessarily know if it's a human being or, ah, if it's your kids --they don't know the difference, so they will warn you all the time. "

When family members enter a home, the new camera "recognizes" (识别 ) them and sends information to the owner's smartphone. The owner can choose to see the video then or latcr. But if an unknown person enters a home, the camera will send the owner a warning that will cause an alarm to sound on the owner's smartphone.

That is what happened recently to a smart home camera owncr named Darrmen. He lives in Paris.

"On a Friday I was at work, atending a big monthly meeting when my phone warned. At first I told myself 'Oh, it must be a mistake, maybe I have to set the systcm again. ' -but the notice on my phone was telling me that there was a movement in my flat and also a face that the software did not recognize. "

He watched the video and was very surprised by what he saw.

"I saw a person I did not know with his shoes on. I was watching it live on vidco. So I felt totaly unbelievable, frozen. I asked a workmate to take me back home as fast as possible and I callcd the police on the way. "

A group of Canadian kids are spreading a bit of Christmas spirit in Halifax, Nova Scotia, by covering warm clothes around light poles (灯杆) for the city's homeless people to pick up and use. It was such an unusual sight that locals stopped to take pictures to share on social media (媒体).

Every year, Tara Atkins-Smith collects warm clothes from her community in order to help the less lucky. This year, since the family was traveling to Halifax with their daughter Jayda and seven of her friends to celebrate her 8th birthday Tara thought it was the perfect time to teach the chidren a valuable life lesson.

The kids spent time handing out coats to the homeless and tied the rest around light poles for others to pick up. Each of the clothes had a tag that read, "I am not lost. If you are caught in the cold, please take me to keep warm. " According to Tara, the experience helped the children better understand the difficult situation of homeless people, who have to brave the cold winter on the streets. "When we got back in the car after an hour on the street, they were all freezing cold and crying for the heater (火炉) to be on because they were cold , " she said.

By next morning, all the jackets, gloves, and scarves on the poles were gone. Photos of the inspriring project have been shared about 8, 000 times on Facebook, and have got over10,000 likes. Tara, who did something similar in Toronto in December last year, says she's already planning next year's coat drive. She hopes that the meaningful thing can spread around the world, and she also wants to add $5 fast food gift card so that the homeless people can also enjoy a hot meal.
