Measures to Relieve Traffic Jam
Although it is convenient and enjoyable to own a car, people have to suffer troubles caused by traffic jam. Today, cars are considered as an important transportation means, especially for those who have to commute between their offices in downtown area and their home in the outskirts of the city. ( 引出文章的主题。) However, the convenience and comfort of driving one's own car have been greatly compromised by traffic jam which might resulted in (“导致......结果" ) a long time of waiting on their way. Complaints are growing.
Considering the causes of the problem, measures could be taken by the local government in the following aspects. First of all, since it has been found that traffic jam occurs most frequently at the crossings ( "十字路口" ) when vehicles are waiting for the traffic lights ("交通信号灯" ), it is advisable that the mechanism of traffic lights, its duration and its direction, should be adjusted. While at present, a car has to wait for two three turns before it can get through the crossing because there are cars going forward, turning right, and turning left; crossings with terrible traffic jam might consider to allow only two directions in the future. Secondly, most people buy private car due to an undeveloped public transportation system. Therefore, there is a great need to give priority to ("优先考虑") the development of public transit system ("公交体系") including subways and buses. Improved public transit will attract more people and thus diminish the number of private cars in the streets.
With a sound transportation system, together with effective transportation guidance and regulation, the problem of traffic jam will be gradually solved.
