　　There is a public controversy today over the issue of whether professional athletes who receive high salaries deserve what they get. Those who object the opinion argue that it is not fair for ordinary people, but advocates of the position frequently proclaim that these celebrities deserve what they deserve. As far as I concerned, I tend to agree with the latter one. As the saying goes: "The more ploughing and weeding, the better the crop."

　　To begin with, professional athletes have to make great sacrifice. They must train for years and years to make it to the level of a professional. Not only does this require copious amounts of hard work, it also costs a lot of money. Besides, they must give their privacy to serve the public. As long as these star athletes leave their homes, they are subjected to being pestered by fans who want to take pictures of them. Every day television and newspaper reporters take notes of every action these celebrities do. I cannot imagine how difficult the lifestyle can be and how careful they should behave in public. Therefore, they deserve so much money.

　　Furthermore, athletes exert great positive effects on people, not only physically but also spiritually. Many people dream to have the perfect figures these athletes have, thus they are encouraged to do exercise regularly and form good living habits. To many others, they are greatly inspired by these athletes because of their perseverance and strong will. Besides, many star athletes set a good role model by donating their money to the charity or some institutions to help children, elderly people and people who need help. They exert a positive influence on the society.

　　We see high salaries both as a boon to professional athletes and as a dream of ordinary people. We must recognize the self-evident fact that the annual salaries of some famous athletes are more than a common family's asset. For example, Kobe, the most famous basketball star in the world, owns an annual pension of thirty million dollars. The high pay will attract more young people to devote themselves to the development of athlete activities.

　　In conclusion, it can be concluded that professional athletes who obtain high salaries, such as football or basketball players, deserve what they get. Though it is possible that high salaries lead to the gap between rich and poor, but don’t forget the fact that as a man sows, so does he reap.
