　　1.Which of the following ways is the best in getting to know Italian culture.

　　① watching Italian movies ② leaning Italian cooking ③ attending Italian lectures or classes

　　For me, attending Italian lectures or classes is the best way to get to know Italian culture, cuz I can learn a whole lot from the lecturer. I mean, usually the lecture is given by a learned professor or some well-known expert who's been studying a certain field for like decades. I'm sure I can get some insightful ideas from them. Plus I can choose to attend whatever lectures I am interested in, like I can attend an Italian history lecture if I want to learn something about the past of Italy, or I may just join an art class if, say, I want to know something about the famous paintings by some Italian artist like Da Vinci.

　　2.Which one do you prefer? To buy the newly-released e-product as soon as possible or to wait for a while and then decide whether you want to buy it or not.

　　Well, I prefer to wait for a while before I finally decide whether to purchase a newly-released e-product or not. I guess it's a more rational choice since, well, sometimes the newly-released e-product may turn out not as good as I have expected. I mean, I can get some comments or feedback from those who buy the new product immediately when it's released about how well the new product can perform. The thing is, chances are the new product may not function very well, like if it's a new cellphone, it may get pretty slow when the user is playing games, and that's a drag. In that case, I won't buy it, cuz it's not worth the money.

　　3.因为学生人数越来越多，学校想把local skating rink 改成学生宿舍，觉得location很便利，只有几公里。男生不同意，因为他觉得许多学生都喜欢这个滑冰场，许多人在上大学之前甚至都没有玩儿过，而且滑冰场的位置不适合做宿舍，宿舍应该建在离教室近的地方。

　　The school decides to transform the local skating rink into student dormitory buildings since the number of students is increasing and the location is convenient. However, the man is opposed to this decision. First, he says that many students like to have fun around the rink, and that lots of students never had a chance to skate before college. Second, he thinks that the location of the rink is not suitable for building dormitory buildings cuz it's too far from campus, which means it'll be inconvenient for students to join on-campus activities. Instead, the buildings should be built near classrooms.

　　4.Maturation effect 研究人员在研究过程中，实验对象可能会因为自身的生长而产生变化，从而影响实验结论的准确性。教授讲了一项研究，研究人员以青少年作为实验对象，测试 exercise能否对他们的体质造成积极影响。实验开始时科学家先测试了一下这些青少年的体质，一年以后又对他们进行测试，发现他们的体质果然有所提高。但我们却不能简单地得出结论说是锻炼提高了他们的身体素质，因为这也可能是natural process的结果。随着他们年龄的增长，他们会变得更强壮，这会影响实验结果。

　　Maturation effect refers to the phenomenon that in the process of a research, a change in the condition of the experimental object which occurs naturally may affect the accuracy of an experiment. For example, the professor says that researchers did an experiment to see whether exercise could have a positive effect on the teenagers' physical health. At the beginning of the experiment, researchers examined the physical health of the teenagers. Then one year later they found that their physical health improved. Yet they couldn't just conclude that exercise helped improve their physical health. This was because natural process might also had affected the outcome of the experiment since as the teenagers grew, their muscle became stronger.

　　5.问题是男生负责一个movie show，show开始前有一个lecture，但是professor家里有急事来不了lecture。他一是可以取消这个show;二是可以自己讲lecture。

　　The man's got a problem. He is in charge of a movie show, and before the show there will be a lecture. But the professor who's going to give the lecture can't make it because of family emergency. He's got two solutions. One is to cancel the lecture and the show. The other is to give the lecture himself. If I were in his shoes, I'd opt for the first solution. He can send emails to the students, explaining to them what has happened. I believe the students can understand his situation. On the contrary, if he gives the lecture himself, he may not be able to answer all the questions raised by the students since he doesn't know much about the lecture himself and he's not confident. That would be quite embarrassing. Plus, chances are the students may get pretty disappointed.

　　6.沙漠中动物生存的两种方式。一是特殊的技巧，帮助减少能耗以走更远的路程来寻找食物，比如袋鼠可以用jump来代替run;二是把食物能量转换成body fat存储起来的技能，比如一种蜥蜴在找到食物后会尽可能地多吃，然后把它们转换成能量储存在尾巴里，这样在长时间找不到食物的时候也可以利用尾巴里储存的能量。

　　The professor talks about two adaptions animals living in the desert use to deal with shortage of food. First, some animals have a special skill which helps them reduce energy consumption. For example, the kangaroo can actually jump instead of running when it's in search of food. This skill enables the kangaroo to cover longer distances to look for food. Second, some animals have the ability to convert the food energy into body fat and then store it. For example, a type of lizard will eat as much as possible after it finds food. It then converts the energy it gets from the food and stores it in its tail. This way, it can make use of the energy stored in its tail during times when food is hard to find.
