The resistance
The prisoner8was brought into theuestioningroom for the umpteenth time. After being strained to the chair, a uniformed officer said, "Itis of no use to be esistant. I have a great deal ofrespect for you and your countrymen. However, theonly way to estore your freedom is for you to be sponsive to our questions." The risoner pulledagainst the restraints. He was a member of theNational Resistance, which is an undergroundmilitary organization esolute in driving out the invading army from their country. The officercontinued, "I will ask you again, what are the names of the leaders of your organization in thistown?" The risoner, having resolved not to espond, began to call upon his sense of sourcefulness to find a way out. His rate of respiration increased. The officer yelled, andthe room shook with great resonance, "I cannot be responsible for what happens to you if youcontinue to esist!" The officer backhanded him. Then resented his own motional outburst, "See what you made me do. You made me esort to iolence. If you do not answer myquestions, I will be forced to forget all restrictions of iolence!" The officer gathered himselfand poke calmly yet sternly, "We both have our respective responsibilities. I am the officerand you are the risoner. We must ask and answer questions respectively. You must not strict your answers to the simple name, ank, and erial number as you did before. I wantto know your resources: the names of the leaders! The estoration of your freedom depends onit!" The prisoner demonstrated great resolution in his silence. His respiratory rateincreased as he prepared himself for the ensuing violence.
