Numbers of Australians visiting 7 foreign destinations in 1999 and 2009
The table presents the information of Australians who paid a visit to different foreign countries in two separated years, 1999 and 2009 respectively.
It is quite clear the increase rates of Australians were higher in the Asian countries and the countries close to Australia geographically, compared with the USA and the UK.
China, receiving 304000 Australian visitors in 2009, witnessed a radical increase rate, though the total number of visitors was smaller than many other countries. Another two Asian countries, Indonesia and Thailand, were also more frequented by Australians and Indonesia became the country that Australians travelled to most, exceeding the number of the UK in 2009.
Australians also preferred to travel to the Oceanian countries: New Zealand and Fiji, with the former receiving the largest number of visitors in 1999.
The figure for Australians who visited the USA and the UK had not increased dramatically. However, the UK was still the destination that substantial number of Australians went to, in marked contrast to the USA, where less than 50000 Australians went in 2009.
