　　The Song of Everlasting Regret, written by Wang Anyi, was published in 2003. It focuses on a woman’s forty years of love and affection, and the evolution and tremendous changes of the metropolis of Shanghai between the 1940s and 1990s. The seemingly insipid but indeed humorous and cold writing style demonstrates how the people and city, during a time of evolution, delight in the discussion of life’s trivial details. The book won the first World Chinese Literature Prize, and also won the most honorable literary award in China–the Mao Dun Literature Prize.
