　　徐州会战，是1938年1月至5月中国第五战区部队，在以江苏省徐州为中心的通往天津、汉口、宝鸡和连云港方向铁路线沿途地区进行的大规模的防御战役，抵抗日军的华北方面军和华中派遣军各一部，其中以1938年3-4月间的“台儿庄大捷”最为著名。1938年5月，中国部队撤离徐州，并在郑州制造“花园口决堤事件”阻止日军南进，徐州会战结束。这次会战共歼灭日军1万余人，大大迟滞了日军进攻的脚步，为中方部署武汉会战赢得了时间。

　　The Battle of Xuzhou

　　The Battle of Xuzhou was a large-scale defensive of the fifth war zone that occurred from January to May 1938. It occurred between Japanese invaders and Chinese defenders in areas along the railways that connect Tianjin, Hankou, Baoji, and Lianyungang with Xuzhou (Jiangsu). The most notable event of the defensive is "The Victory in Taierzhuang" that occurred in March and April 1938. The battle ended with the withdrawal of Chinese troops from Xuzhou in May of 1938. Huayuankou Dam of Zhengzhou was burst to prevent the Japanese from further southward aggression. With a death toll of over 10,000 Japanese troops, this battle greatly diminished Japanese potential for aggression, and won time for the Chinese army to prepare for the Battle of Wuhan.
