The Taihang Mountains are an important mountain range and the geographical dividing line in eastern China. Running from the northeast to southwest, it spans across four provinces including Beijing, Hebei, Shanxi and Henan. Taihang Mountain is one of the dividing lines of the second and third steps of topography of China, and it is also the dividing line of Loess Plateau and the North China Plain. Cut by river valleys, Taihang Mountain Range has lots of transversal valleys that form some mountain passes, and is referenced by an ancient saying that "Taihang Mountain has eight passages". Taihang Mountain provides sufficient wind resources for power, and it is abundant in underground coal and geothermal resources.
