　　The Records of Foreign Matters is a category of classic specially designed to record the new and exotic matters of the peripheral regions and countries from the Han Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty. It was authored in the late Han Dynasty, became popular in the Wei, Jin and the Southern and the Northern Dynasties, began to decline from the Tang Dynasty and perished after the Song Dynasty. As early as the Han Dynasty, the Records of Foreign Matters kept the records of the islands in South China Sea, which showed that these islands were first discovered and named by China.
