　　Sanjiang Plain, located in northeastern China, is an important segment of the Northeastern China Plain. “Sanjiang” means three rivers in Chinese, a name which refers to the Heilongjiang, Ussuri and Songhua Rivers. This low-altitude fertile land formed through convergence and alluviation. Sanjiang Plain is China’s swamp region, and is rich in water resources. With high farmland area per capita, it is an important national grain production center. In the past it was sometimes referred to as the "Great Northern Wilderness", a name that has evolved to the “North Warehouse” in modern times.
