　　粤语又作广东话，俗称白话， 是一种汉藏语系汉语族的声调语言。发源于古代中原雅言，具有完整的九声六调。粤语在中国广东、广西及香港、澳门和东南亚，以及北美、英国和澳大利亚华人社区中广泛使用。全世界使用粤语人数约7000万。在香港及澳门，粤语占绝对优势地位。在汉语语族里，除普通话外，粤语是比较成功发展为全功能语言的语种。

　　Cantonese is a variety of the Chinese language within the Sino-Tibetan language family. It originated from ancient Central Plains Yayan (“elegant speech”), with “nine tones and six modes”. Cantonese is widely used in Guangdong, Guangxi, Hong Kong, Macau as well as the Chinese communities in Southeast Asia, North America, UK and Australia. The population who use Cantonese worldwide reaches about 70 million. In Hong Kong and Macau, Cantonese holds the dominant position. Apart from Mandarin, it is another fully functional language in the Chinese language group.
