1928年春天，冯玉祥第二次来到开封，当了河南省督军，还兼任省主席。
In the spring of 1928, Feng Yuxiang came to Kaifeng for the second time. Then he was the warword of hennanand the provincial chairman of hennan.
有一天，冯玉祥自个儿来到西门里救苦庙，找到庙里住持常善化，说要朝拜菩萨。庙里师徒全是女僧，冷不丁来个高大魁梧的男施主，都有些惊异。常善化硬着头皮把他领进了大殿。冯玉祥跪倒在菩萨像前，一面磕头，一面求告：“省城开封至今还没有一个像样的会场，我老冯想盖它一个，手里就是没钱。听说菩萨大慈大悲，普救众生，希望能施舍一二，帮帮老冯的忙。”祷告完毕，又烧了三柱香，等菩萨回答。那泥塑的菩萨哪会说话呢?冯玉祥换了一下口气说：“看来菩萨是善口难开，我也不好意思强人所难。这样吧，限你十日内答复，也算是你显灵了。”说完，向向常善化拱手告别，出门走了。
One day, he came to Jiuku Temple at Ximenli by himself. He visited the abbot of the temple, Chang Shanhua, and told her that he wanted to visit the Bodhisattva. It shocked all the people here that there came a very big and tall man, for all the masters and apprentices were women. And Chang led him to the main hall of the temple forcibly. He went down on knees in front of the Bodhisattva’s statue. As kowtowing, he prayed: “Up to now, there is not a presentable meeting place in Capital Kaifeng. I, Old Feng want to build one. But I don’t have money. I know that the Bodhisattva is infinitely compassionate and merciful, and save all the living things. I hope you can donate to Old Feng.” After Praying, he burned three incenses, and waited for the Bodhisattva’s answer. Can the clay statue really talk? Feng Changed his tone and said: “You must be ashamed to tell your good deeds, so I needn’t try to make you do something which you can’t do. Ok. You can show your power in 10 days.” Saying this, he waved to Chang and walked away.
事情过后，庙里的女僧多方打探，才知道来拜菩萨的是河南督军冯玉祥，和他拜菩萨的真正用心。原来上一任河南督军赵倜的老母亲常在救苦庙做善事，捐了一大批木材，焦扩建庙宇使用。冯玉祥限期让神仙“显灵”，是要庙院把这批木料献出来，建个人民会场。女僧们知道冯督军不是好惹的，计议了半天，只好顺水推舟，把这批木材献了出来。
After this, the nuns inquired around. Finally, they knew the person who visited the Bodhisattva and the real purpose that he visited here. It turned out that the last Governor was Zhouti. His old mother often did good deeds and donated a cargo of woods to extend the temple. The reason why Feng let the Bodhisattva show its power was that he wanted the temple to give the woods away to build a meeting place for people. The nuns knew that Feng was not to be crossed. So they made use of the opportunity to give the woods away after deliberating quite a while.
这一年七月，一个可容万人以上的人民会场盖成了，既能开会又能演戏。人们至今还念叨着冯玉祥这一份功劳哩。
It was July in this year when the meeting place was completed, which could hold more than 10 000 people. It was used to hold a meeting or perform plays. Now people still remember this contribution of Feng’s.
