When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Californian girl Anabelle Lockwood, 10, did exactly that. Anabelle started a lemon business called The Loco Lemon. She sold self-made lemon juice in her town and became popular.
Anabelle came up with the idea when talking with friends. “It’s made by my grandmother,” she said. “Everyone loves it.” Her father helped her build a booth (摊位). Along with her friends, Anabelle spent her summer selling lemonade in order to buy a new bike that she has wanted for a long time.
Anabelle’s mother Rene is a manager at a local company. She found a few local shops that would help. Anabelle sold her lemon juice outside the shops for three hours a day. Soon, her popularity spread in the town. People all fell in love with her lemonade. But later a neighbor was angry to say Anabelle couldn’t sell her lemonade in the neighborhood anymore.
The government is also now asking her to have a license for her business. To start the business, the business license will cost her $3,500. Rene asked the local health department about how to make the lemonade business legal for events like weddings(婚礼) as they received a bride (新娘) who wanted Anabelle’s lemonade at her wedding. Besides, she also has to pay for other license up to $500.
However, she believed that Anabelle would need the proper license, just like other food sellers. Health professional people don’t usually worry about kids’ lemonade businesses. But, in Anabelle’s case, they agreed she needed a license. “Lemonade helps kill bacteria (细菌),” said Jessica. “However, company events and weddings are not simply about a child sitting on a corner and selling lemonade.”
